Reykjavik and Amsterdam

We spent a few days in Reykjavik after returning the rental car. Reykjavik is home to 60 % of Iceland's total population of about 300,000. We even bumped into the other 3 RPI guys at a cafe . Small country! Between Ketflavik 30 minutes west and Reykjavik there's some civilization, and then it abruptly ends except for small farms and towns centered around gas stations every 50 miles or so. On Friday night we joined in the local "runtur" tradition of partying all night. This time of year it stays light for 24 hours a day. The only hint that the days are changing are about 4 hours of slight dimness. People don't even think about coming out until midnight, and many bars and clubs don't really get going until 3 or 4am. About 75% of people wear black and some people get really dressed up. Overall we found the whole thing to be overrated and very superficial.
This picture was taken at about 3am. Thats about as dark as it gets.

We had a quick easy flight to Amsterdam. Transportation in this city is AMAZING. Zillions of bikes everywhere, but also wonderful trains, trams, buses, mini cars, scooters and a few cars here and there. Our first day we took a great free walking tour, and then rented bikes to see more of the city. We went to a pub crawl on Tuesday, which ended up being all tourists like us (who else parties on a Tuesday). I met several people from around the world on similar trips to mine, including one guy who's been traveling for a year and a half so far.
This is the narrowest home in Amsterdam. Homes used to be taxed based on how wide they were, so all the old buildings are very narrow, or in this case extremely narrow.

Lots of street art and graffiti in Amsterdam
These automats are pretty common in the Netherlands... basically a giant vending machine full of hamburgers etc.
