Yup, it is a library. I wasn't sure at first, because its like the library of the future. The Amsterdam public library is enormous, and architecturally brilliant. There are hundreds of PCs and Macs, as well as public wifi (which doesn't work on my linux Eee grrr). They also have these study pods which I love; basically a chair and desk inside a little pod so nothing can distract you. The most amazing part is that book check out and return is all done robotically. Books whizz around on conveyors and with air suction arms, and are automatically elevatored to the proper floor. To check books out, you just place them and your card in a special box. I think the whole system uses RFID tags in the books. I'll have to post some pictures of this place once I can get on with my own computer.
I'm off to Belgium tomorrow.
